The Fuzzies

If any of you know me, you know I love animals! No, seriously they’re awesome! They bring unconditional love and joy to my life. Like any good Pet-Parent out there might say, “my pets are the best!”. So, without further ado…

Allow me to introduce to you, the blogging world, my roommates: The Fuzzies.

I currently have a cat, Tigger and I’m halfway through a 2 week trial for another cat, Carmella, through adopt-a-pet.

This is Tigger. 3 years and a few months ago, I adopted Tigger from a humane society in the Twin Cities area (Minnesota) for my grandma. At the time, Grandma Rene was 91 years old and I figured she needed some company. It was a surprise and at first was received with a caution sign, which quickly changed into a green light. It helped that Tigs looked like a cat she had years previously. (Her original name was Natasha, but Grandma’s previous cat was Tigger and that’s what she called her. The name stuck). Tigs provided Grandma with love, cuddles, and funny antics to watch. Grandma, although sometimes she wouldn’t admit it, loved her and would let her walk all over her. Side note- my Grandma was a very tiny woman who, if hugged too hard, could probably have broken into pieces. So, this whole cat-walking-all-over-her thing was more extraordinary than you would think. Tigger was with Grandma Rene from that point on until the end. When Grandma passed away, we were all surrounding her. When we finally said the Lord’s Prayer, Tigger jumped on the bed, sat down next to her, and put her paws on top of Grandma’s hands. Tigger is a very special kitty. The next year was spent at my cousin’s house (since I was not allowed to have pets in my rented home). Finally, last year she was back with me! Last summer, I got a bunny (Henry Buster McBunny) and the two became best friends. Sadly, this past July, Henry passed away. (That’s a story for another post). I figured Tigger would want another fuzzy friend while I’m away at work/internship/whatever it is I do. This is where Carmella steps into the picture.

Carmella, Carmy/Carmie?, is the new kitty! (Ok, so this during this photo shoot, she was in the middle of a nap and a little annoyed at all the pictures I was taking). She was a stray who was put into a foster-home. I read her description on petfinder.com and instantly knew she was the one. We’re currently a little past the half way point in a 2 week trial. Carmella is perfectly happy in her new home; purring, snuggling (with me and visitors), and vocalizing her thoughts in the form of scratchy meows. Carmella most likely has some long medical term that is basically “cat herpes”. It sounds awful, but it’s mainly a upper respiratory infection. She has one eye that gets “goo” and she sometimes coughs. It is contagious, so Tigs will be getting a vaccine shot sometime SOON! Other than that, Carmella is the perfect cat. Tigs just needs to lighten up a little about sharing food/favorite spots/toys… This morning was a breakthrough! Carmella came up to Tigger, their noses touched, and Tigger started licking Carmella’s forehead. (Something she used to do with Henry the bunny). I was pretty excited.
Anyway, I’m not quite sure about the etiquette of blog post length yet. Forgive me if I over-wrote.
