Books?

It’s so nice not having homework and deadlines for papers! Yet, today in the break room as I sat alone, I was thinking (woh…watch out!). My job is really fun and I get to play all day with kids doing art, music, running around outside and lots of other things, but I’m worried for my mind. I need to think about something more than sandboxes and glue sticks. Today, I talked to my coworker about the families of the kids and how the parenting is different and how it affects the kids (positively and/or negatively). I love talking about people and how groups of people work. That’s why I love sociology. It was always so interesting learning about other cultures, different genders (multiple genders not just two?!), urban vs. rural areas, the way people use space…it goes on and on. Although school stressed me out and was very difficult for me at times, I still want to think, learn, and use my brain.

All of this brings me to my main point, I need some help! I want to find good books I can actually get into. What books have you enjoyed (recently or in the past)? I don’t need them all to be “thinkers” I just finished one of Chelsea Handler’s books. I just need some good books on my list of books to read!

Thanks in advance!

Finally!

Today, I moved back into my apartment (that had the kitchen fire). It’s all clean and painted and I’m doing laundry! It still has a lot of work to go as far as organizing my stuff and unpacking and cleaning stuff that’s still soot-y. The cats are doing well. Tigger and Carmella created a wonderful bond during our time away from this apartment, but since they’ve been back, Tigger seemed to take a few steps back towards the “not so sure about you” direction. She takes change with some hesitance. I know she’ll come around.

Speaking of change (segue), tomorrow I’ll be starting as a full time early preschool teacher! I’m very excited about the job. There are a few things I still need to work out, but it’s a good start. I have a great group of kids and a very nice co-teacher (there are two teachers in each room). I’m sure I’ll have some more posts having to do with art projects and theme weeks! I really hope I get Halloween week! I have so many project ideas.

Well, it’s getting quite late since I have to be up early like the rest of the world now. Since I’m back in my place (with internet) I hope to have more regular blog posts! Good night for now.

P.S. Did any of you know that is how you spell segue? (Pronounced seg-way) Yeah…weird right?

Take it off

Happy people. They’re everywhere. Well, there are definitely a lot of them up in Minnesota. Maybe it’s the “Minnesota nice” thing. Maybe it’s just a great place to live. Either way, there’s a plethora of  happy people around where I live. I want to talk about a specific type of happy person I’ve encountered many times in my life. It’s the person who seems to be happy at all times, no matter what. They’re smiling, laughing, and seem to come from a place of euphoria. They know just about everyone there is and quite honestly, they almost seem to be too happy. Do you know this person? Have you ever talked to them? Not just a “hi”, or a brief update about the happenings of life, I mean really have a dialogue.

I’ve found a pattern with many of these seemingly blissful characters. They’re just that, characters: it’s a face they put on to hide behind in order to hinder anyone from ever seeing who they really are. These are the people no one would expect to have ever had a problem, let alone a zit in their life. I recently had a conversation with one of these “perfect” people. Opening up is something hard for them to do, but once they did, there was a downpour of truth, honesty, and pain behind their mask.

I’m not saying that everyone who is happy is a liar who desperately needs help. I’m trying to raise awareness to people that being “perfect” isn’t what it’s made up to be. You don’t have to be perfect to be liked or loved. In fact, it’s the imperfections that make us human and approachable. It’s time to take off the mask and be honest with yourself and others about who you are.
